Interrail Planner is a tool for planning slow train trips around Europe. This page explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, where it lives, and how to take it back.
The short version
You can plan a whole trip without an account — it stays in your browser. If you make an account, we keep your email, whatever you choose to put in your profile, and the trips and wishlist you build. We don’t show ads, and we don’t sell your data or hand it to data brokers. You can delete everything yourself at any time.
What we collect
Before you sign up. You can build a wishlist and draft itineraries with no account at all. Those are saved only in your own browser (see the Cookies page) — we don’t see them until you create an account and choose to keep them.
Your account. Signing up needs an email address and a password. We store your email so you can sign in and so we can send you the couple of account emails below.
Your profile (all optional). In your account settings you can add a display name, age, gender (or describe it yourself), a home country, and a profile photo. None of it is required to use the planner. There’s a single toggle — “Show my profile on shared trips” — that controls whether your profile (your display name, photo, and any age, gender, or country you’ve added) appears on trips you share; turn it off and shared trips just say they were made by an Interrail planner.
What you make. The trips you build (their titles, stops, day-by-day plans, dates, and any accommodation you note down) and the stops and activities you heart. If you invite someone to help edit a trip, that happens through a share link — we don’t ask you for their email address.
How the app is used. We measure how the product is used — things like page views and events such as creating a trip or hearting a place — so we can see what works and what to fix. Before you sign in this is tied only to an anonymous ID, not to you. Once you sign in we connect it to your account with your account ID, email, and browser language. We don’t record your screen.
When something breaks. If the app hits an error, an automatic report is sent to our error-monitoring service so we can debug it. That report can include technical details like your IP address and, if you’re signed in, identifiers from your session that help us trace the problem. We deliberately keep the contents of your trips out of these reports.
Where your data lives
Your account, profile, trips, and wishlist are stored with Supabase (a hosted Postgres database, with your profile photo in its file storage), in the European Union — the Supabase project is hosted in AWS region eu-central-1 (Frankfurt, Germany). The app itself runs on Vercel.
We work with a small number of processors, each for one job:
- Supabase — accounts, profiles, trips, and wishlist storage (EU).
- Vercel — hosting and serving the app.
- PostHog — product analytics, on their EU region, routed through our own domain.
- Sentry — error and crash reporting, on their EU region.
- Resend — sending the two account emails described below.
Email we send you
We only send transactional email tied to your account: a message to confirm your address when you sign up, and a reset link when you ask to change your password. They come from hello@interrail-planner.com. There’s no newsletter and no marketing email.
Other sites and embeds
Interrail Planner is a planning tool, not a booking service. When you go to book a bed or an activity, we link out to third parties — for example Booking.com, Hostelworld, and Airbnb for stays, and Google Maps for places. Following those links takes you to their sites, where their own privacy policies apply.
Some activity pages embed TikTok videos directly from tiktok.com. When one of those loads, TikTok can see your IP address and set its own cookies, the same as any embedded video would. We keep the player compact and don’t auto-play it.
The interactive map’s fonts and icons are served by Interrail Planner itself, not by an outside host, so loading the map doesn’t hand your IP address to a third party.
Keeping it, and deleting it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account whenever you like from your account settings — it permanently removes your account and cascades through the trips, wishlist, and profile tied to it. One current exception: a profile photo you’ve uploaded may remain in our file storage after deletion. Anything you planned anonymously lives only in your browser until you clear it.
Our analytics and error-monitoring providers keep their own records according to their retention periods.
Your rights
You can see and change most of your data yourself: edit your profile, change your trips and wishlist, and delete your account. If you’re in the EU or UK you also have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to have it erased. For anything you can’t do in the app, email us at hello@interrail-planner.com and we’ll help.
Interrail Planner isn’t intended for children under 13, and accounts are age 13 and up.
Changes and contact
As the product grows we may update this page; when we do, we’ll change the date at the top. Questions about your privacy? Email the operator of Interrail Planner at hello@interrail-planner.com.
