Data sources

We don’t republish anyone’s timetable. We load published schedules into a routing engine and use them to work out how long a journey between two places takes and where you’d change — so what you see on a trip is our calculation, derived from the data below and modified in that sense. Timetables change constantly, so treat a travel time as a good plan rather than a promise, and check the operator before you rely on a connection.

The map itself is separate: the base map is Protomaps built from OpenStreetMap data, under the Open Database Licence.

These 21 feeds carry a licence we have read, either in the data itself or on the publisher’s own terms page.

Some licences ask us to reproduce a specific notice. We keep these in their original language, because a translation isn’t the notice.

These 4 feeds are published openly by the operators and national access points below, but none of them states a licence — not in the data, and not on a terms page we could find. We credit the publisher and say plainly that we don’t know the terms, rather than assert a licence we haven’t read.

Where a feed comes from an EU national access point we also publish the date the publisher last updated it. That isn’t a licence condition — it’s Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1926 Article 8(3), which asks anyone reusing this kind of data to indicate its source and the date and time it was last updated, whatever the licence says.

The photographs of places in Interrail Planner come from Unsplash and are used under the Unsplash License. Each one names its photographer here and on that place’s own page in the planner, with a link back to their Unsplash profile — the same arrangement as the timetables above, because the photograph also appears on cards a couple of hundred pixels wide where a credit line would be unreadable.

A number of older hero images predate this and carry no recorded photographer; those are being replaced rather than left uncredited.

If you publish one of these feeds and we’ve credited you wrongly, named the wrong licence, or you’d like different wording — email us at hello@interrail-planner.com and we’ll fix it. That goes double if your feed is in the “without stated terms” list: we would much rather carry your actual terms than a note saying we couldn’t find them.
